Wall in Poetry
Marwnad Cynddylan
This poem was written in the seventh century by Llywarch Hen to celebrate a successful attack on a place called ‘Caer Luitcoed’ by Prince Cynddylan of Powys, Wales, which may be referring to Wall. This poem details three battles in which Prince Cynddylan was involved, the first at ‘doleo taw’, the second at ‘Caer Luitcoed’ and the third at ‘tra Thren’. In the battle at Wall, Cynddylan is said to have got away with ‘fifteen hundred cattle’ and ‘four twenties of stallions’.
